After 4 weeks of documenting leading up to the NHL Winter Classic, HBO aired their final episode of 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic. Unfortunately for Flyer fans, they relive the disappointing loss to the Rangers 3-2, however, it is excellent coverage and great drama, which almost helps you forget about the loss. Almost. The episode showed Max Talbot and Jaromir Jagr's return to Pittsburgh, Peter Laviolette's New Year's Eve party, the Flyers outdoor practice on New Year's Day (and family skate), and of course the 2012 Winter Classic. Here are some of most entertaining quotes of the episode:
Scott Hartnell to Evgeni Malkin:
Hey, (You're) the ugliest guy in the league. Ugliest!
Peter Laviolette talking about his New Year's Eve Party:
One thing about coaching is you move around a lot, and it's never in the city you grow up in. So to have your mom, and dad and family all together for New Year's Eve is special. To have the Winter Classic here, kind of brings everything together and ties everyone in. It makes it a really nice New Year's Eve.
Jeremy Roenick to Ilya Brygalov:
I'm telling you, you're gonna be great, this is a great city for you. Just go stop the puck, don't worry about anything else. If this team wins a cup, it's gonna be because of you.
Jaromir Jagr to Max Talbot's Mother (who was having trouble skating) during family skate:
You skate like your son!
Coach Laviolette in the locker-room prior to the Winter Classic:
Once the jets fly by and you get in one shift, it's just hockey, just another game.
Claude Giroux to Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist:
Come on Henrik, let me score one tonight, just one.
Giroux to Hartnell (referring to JVR):
He says if we scores, do the Anisimov.
Hartnell: Shoot the goalie?
Giroux: Yea, but who am I gonna fight though?
JVR: Did you see what Rupp did. He did the Jags salut!
Giroux: No he didn't
JVR: Yea he did!
Giroux to Rangers center:
Did Rupp do the Jags salut?
Yea, I thought it was pretty cool.
How is that cool, it's the 2nd goal of his career!
Hartnell: It's embarrassing is what it is!
Giroux: The guy's a legend!
